Summer Salad

summer-salad
Hello there! Long time no see. I’ve taken quite a long break from blogging, mostly due to my grad school schedule but since graduation in June it’s just been well, I guess I can chalk it up to it being summer.

Speaking of summer time, I recently made this salad which yes isn’t exactly revolutionary but so damn good I felt compelled to share. And since cooking is still not exactly something I love to do, a quick, easy meal is a win in my book. All you’ll need is some arugula, cubed watermelon and feta cheese, white balsamic vinegar and voila! A delicious summer salad is born. Enjoy!

I drizzled some white balsamic vinegar as my dressing but you can make a fancier version of this salad, courtesy of Ina Garten, with this recipe.

luxury vs reality: Rockstud pumps

luxury-vs-reality-rockstar-valentinosAfter a long absence from the world of blogging, I’m back with another installment of Luxury vs. Reality for all you budget-conscious fashionphiles out there.

The ubiquitous Valentino “Rockstud” pumps seen on every blogger, everywhere will run you only the low, low price of a thousand bucks. Now, this is all good if you are one of the lucky few who can afford these puppies but for the other 99 percent I’m pretty sure the much-more practical Sam Edelman “Ollie” pumps will be your shoe of choice.

I like the Rockstud pump, I really do. But once I started seeing them everywhere I found myself enjoying them less and less (and sure maybe their lack of affordability in my life may or may not have played a factor lol.) I’m no fashion expert but to me this seems to fall more in line with the “trend” shoe and not one you can safely wear 5-10 years from now. For me, the Sam Edelman pumps are a much smarter bang for your buck.

hello spring

hello-spring
It’s been another crazy couple of weeks and I can’t believe I’m getting ready to start the last quarter of my graduate school career. Needless to say, it’s been busy and as per usual haven’t had much time to devote to le blog. But I’ve decided to breathe a bit and hope for the best. Sometimes the best laid plans don’t quite pan out as you’d like but I firmly believe that mine will get back on track. I’m working at it, one step at a time.

And of course it’s finally officially Spring! Though California hasn’t suffered through traumatic winters like many other parts of the country (and the world) it’s still exciting to start a new season, which happens to be my personal favorite. Hello Spring indeed!

oscar dress infographic

hi-res-oscar-dresses-20141Like the millions of others that watched the Oscars on Sunday night I was paying close attention to what everyone was wearing because well, it’s the Oscars! It’s one of my favorite activities and my husband joked that watching all the pre-show coverage is like a sporting event for me. What can I say? I’m a lady who enjoys fashion.

I came across this amazing infographic on Pinterest and it was fascinating to look back at the different styles best actress winners have worn over the years. On a random side note, I swear during the coverage I remember hearing that wearing red was a sign of bad luck because there have been very few winners who’ve worn red to the Oscars and this infographic completely corroborates that statement. Myth or fact? Who knows. Either way, clearly fashion was just as important then as it is now.

defined by your wine

defined by your wine
This hilarious infographic popped up on my Facebook news feed and I couldn’t agree more with what it depicts. My husband and I have been fans of Riesling for quite some time and though we never spent a semester in Germany, we now have a good excuse to explain our love for it in case everyone ever asks. Not that we need to, I mean it’s good and we like it (no wine snobs here, I’ll take a bottle of $2 buck chuck anytime.)

In the last few months though I’ve found myself leaning toward chardonnays (and yes I may or may not be turning into my mother because I’ve been known to put ice cubes in as well.) And who doesn’t love boxed wine?!

While we’re on the topic of wine I thought I’d share another great infographic because I’m definitely in the 89 percent that drinks on flights so I was curious to learn some info about my favorite drink of choice. Can’t believe the U.S. isn’t even in the top 20 of biggest drinkers! Maybe we don’t like wine that much?? Let’s get cracking America!

Tell me do you drink on flights? And what does your wine choice say about you?
